Buenos Aires, Argentina – Brazil’s Gremio won the prestigious Copa Libertadores for the third time [previously lifting the continental trophy in 1983 and 1995] in its history with a 2-1 victory at Argentina’s Lanus on Wednesday night.

Gremio won the South American title with goals by midfielders Fernandinho at 28 min and Luan at 45 min.Lanus’ Jose Sand scored from the penalty spot in the 72nd min.

The team has scored 116 goals this year so far and will add to the list of the teams looking to win the FIFA Club World Cup in December in Abu Dhabi.

”We are going to end the world in the celebrations,” said Luan to Associated Press, who scored eight goals in the Copa Libertadores and a regular starter in Brazil’s national team.

Coach Portaluppi, is now the first Brazilian to win the South American crown both as player and coach.

”I have no words to describe this, we deserved it so much,” a tearful Portaluppi said to the Associated Press
