The UAE Pro League Committee (PLC) have announced that the 2017/18 Arabian Gulf Super Cup, the traditional curtain raiser to the season, will be held in Cairo, Egypt this year.

The match will be contested between 2016/17 Arabian Gulf League champions Al Jazira and 2017 President’s Cup winners Al Wahda at the 30 June stadium in Cairo on September 15th, 2017.

PLC have tasked Egyptian company ‘Presentation Sports’ with organising and sponsoring the match. It is to be noted that last year’s Super Cup was also held in Cairo, which was won by Al Ahli against of Al Jazira.

The impressive success of that particular game, which saw huge media interest with Egyptian and Emirati channels broadcasting the match and a large crowd in attendance, persuaded PLC to hold the cup once again in Egypt.

Acting CEO of the PLC, Mr. Waleed Al Hosani believes hosting the competition in Egypt for the second year in a row is a testament to the strong ties between the two countries, highlighting the fact that UAE have hosted the Egyptian Super Cup twice as well.

“The PLC aims to achieve several objectives by holding the Arabian Gulf Super Cup outside the country”, said Al Hosani, “Expanding the fan base of UAE football abroad, providing a platform for Emirati teams and players to showcase their skills abroad to reflect the progress of UAE football.

“These matches also contribute to attracting larger numbers of football fans in Egypt to learn more about UAE football and follow the PLC competitions”.
