Sports clubs in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi have responded overwhelmingly to the President of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s directives to facilitate their amenities for the “Together We Are Good” programme.
The programme initiated by the Authority of Social Contribution was set up to give the community a chance to support Abu Dhabi Government’s efforts to address current health and economic challenges.
The response from the clubs to offer their fullest support has been immediate. They have responded with their readiness to support the national campaign to combat the Coronavirus pandemic.
HE Major General Dr Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Chairman of Baniyas Club, said they would fully comply with HH Sheikh Nahyan’s gesture by providing the club facilities and resources to meet the challenges posed by Covid-19.
“In times like this, we highly appreciate His Highnesses gesture for the sports clubs to rally as a national campaign to combat the Covid-19,” he said.
“We have opened all our facilities for people in Al Shamkah to avail them. They include our gymnasium, volleyball and jiu-jitsu auditorium, and even the parking area, should they require to be used for any contingency requirements in the area.”
Hamad bin Nakhirat, Managing Director of Al Ain Sports and Cultural Club, stressed the club was delighted to be of service to the community and for the opportunity provided by HH Sheikh Nahyan.
“The club is fully prepared to join the national campaign in support to combat the Cobid-19,” he said.
“We want to put on record our leadership and the UAE Government’s efforts in trying to bring the Covid-19 under control. We offer our sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, police, servicemen and all those involved in the sterilisation programme.”
HE Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, a member of the Board of Directors Al Jazira Club and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Al Jazira Football Company, shared similar sentiments.
“All our facilities at the club are made available and we are fully committed to undertake any responsibility under our country’s leadership in combating this global phenomenon,” he said.
