Tanzania National football team, Taifa Stars is set to play two friendly matches during the FIFA week between March 24th and 30th.

According to information released by Tanzania Football Federation, TFF, Taifa Stars will travel to Algeria for first friendly slated for March 22.

Five days later, Taifa Stars will play host to Democratic Republic of Congo in a second friendly that has been booked for March 27th.

This will be the first Taifa Stars assignment since the disappointing group stage elimination in CECAFA tournament held in Kenya late last year.

Algeria who are rebuilding their team under the legend, Rabah Madjah humiliated Taifa Stars 7-0 the last time the two sides met in 2015 in a World Cup qualifier match.

Taifa Stars then under the tutelage of Charles Mkwasa squandered a two goal lead in a 2-2 stalemate in the first leg match played in Dar four days before the massacre in Bilda.

Stars who are ranked 146th globally in FIFA Rankings will hope to use the two friendlies as part of preparation for the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda, Lesotho and Cape Verde.

Given the relative short time available, the out of contract, Salum Mayanga is expected to take charge of the team as speculation over his future continue.

Tanzanian teams have generally struggled against North African opponents and it is expected this will be another tough outing against Algeria who are considered a powerhouse on the African continent.

The same can be said for DR Congo but playing at home offers its own little advantage and hope for Taifa Stars.
