Brave Combat Federation held its eighth show in less than a year with stellar success, coming back to Curitiba for two title fights. Klidson de Abreu avenged Brazilian football team’s tragic loss to Germany by defeating TimoFeucht with an armbar from the mount to become the first ever Light Heavyweight champion, while Carlston Harris completed a fairytale story after being called out on one day’s notice to fight for the inaugural Welterweight title. The Guianese outworked Englishman Carl Booth to claim the belt by unanimous decision.
Klidson became the first Brazilian to hold a Brave title in the main event, dominating a dangerous TimoFeucht standing up and when the fight hit the ground. A jiu-jitsu world champion at brown belt level, Abreu showed improved striking skills and was superior to his German counterpart throughout the contest, which took little more than nine minutes.
During the first round, Klidson and Feucht exchanged heavy punches, but the Brazilian seemed more confident and relaxed and managed to land almost at will. Taking advantage of his world class grappling, Abreu took things to the ground, but Timo showed his defense was on point. It was during the second frame that Klidson’s straight punches took their toll on “Teddy” as he shot in for a takedown, was reversed and submitted with ease by Brave’s first ever Light Heavyweight champion.
Knowing that “Bomber” had heavy hands, Carlston invested in his wrestling and Luta Livre game and they paid dividends as his cardio and superior clinch made the difference. Booth had his moments, mainly in the striking department. A very talented kickboxer, the Englishman dazed Harris a couple of times with straight punches but had no answer to the powerful striking of the new champion, who completed a true fairytale story after 25 minutes of a grueling match.
In the event’s main card, Luan “Miau” Santiago, Brazilian MMA’s Fighter of The Year, improved his Brave Combat Federation record to 2-0, with a first-round knockout of Igor Soares. The Lightweight prospect, however, had to show his immense heart to overcome two knockdowns by newcomer Soares, who fought at three days notice.
ChristianoFrohlich and EdilbertoCrocotá settled their differences inside the cage, and “Urso” came out victorious, albeit in controversial fashion. They started things off in a wild bout, as Edilberto shot in immediately for a takedown, but was unable to force his way through Frohlich. Then, after he was dazed with a punch, his mouthpiece fell off, and he waved to the referee. Osiris Maia saw that as a signal that Crocotá was giving up and Frohlich was awarded the TKO victory. Elsewhere, there were wins for Brave veterans Marcel Adur and Jeremy Pacatiw, who knocked out Rodrigo Melonio and ThiagoDelaColeta, respectively.
